The circle is split into 16 zones. Each colour is one of the five elements.
Dark shade: main direction. Light shade: the zone in between.
Five steps for a good reading.
Take the reading from the middle of the room, house or plot. Not from the doorway.
Steel cupboards, fridges, speakers and magnets pull the reading. Step away from them. Remove a magnetic phone case or stand.
Screen facing up, level like a table top. The app warns you if the phone is tilted.
The arrow at the top of the dial shows where the top of your phone points. The coloured zone under the arrow is the zone you are facing.
The dial stops moving so you can lower the phone and read it calmly. Tap “Resume live compass” to carry on.
Wave your phone slowly in a figure 8 a few times. This recalibrates the compass. Move away from metal and electrical items, then read again from two or three spots.
Phone compasses can be off by 5 to 15 degrees indoors. For a wall or door you will build to, check with a real compass.
Each colour is one of the five elements: blue for Water, green for Air, red for Fire, yellow for Earth and purple for Space.
The dark shade marks the eight main directions (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW). The light shade marks the zones in between.
16 zones split the circle into equal parts of 22.5 degrees. These are the Vastu directions used for rooms.
32 padas split every zone in half, 11.25 degrees each. They are used to check the exact position of a main door or gate. Each side has 8 padas: N1 to N8, E1 to E8, S1 to S8 and W1 to W8.
Your phone points to magnetic north. Vastu uses true north. In most of India the difference is less than 2 degrees, so Magnetic is fine for most homes.
If you know your exact number, open Settings, choose True north and enter it.
On iPhone, tap Try again on the Compass screen and choose Allow.
If no question appears, close Safari fully (swipe it away from the app switcher), open this page again and tap Start compass.
Some laptops and tablets have no compass. On these, turn the dial with your finger to explore the zones. On a phone, open the page in Chrome or Safari, not inside another app.
Yes. After the first visit it works offline. You can add it to your home screen from Settings.

Use 16 zones for rooms. Use 32 padas to find the exact spot of a main door or gate.
Your phone measures from magnetic north. Vastu uses true north. In most of India the difference is less than 2 degrees, so most people can keep Magnetic.
Enter your local magnetic declination. East is plus, West is minus. Find your number.
